  1. I have to tell this story which tangentially relates to this submission:

My father came to America from Germany when he was a little kid, not speaking so much as a single word of English. He ultimately taught himself the language by way of comic books, which he subsequently kept reading his entire adult life (it was one of the things he had in common with my mom, and which they passed on to me).

My pop's favorite comic book character was Conan, and his favorite Conan artists were always - in no particular order - Boris, Barry Windsor Smith and Joe Jusko.

I don't know Joe, he doesn't know me, and there was no way he could have known that the day on which he sent me this piece was also two months to the day since my father died.

I've been missing my pop terribly, and I was- in fact- sitting at my computer dealing with a bunch of his estate issues when Joe's Conan piece came in. I damn near broke down crying at my desk, it was such a damn touching and unexpected coincidence.

Anyway, drink in this amazing piece, it's gorgeous and Joe Jusko is a ding-danged legend. Enjoy!

  2. It's humbling that one of my doodles can touch someone in that way. Thank you so much for the compliment! We sit here in our little studios, lucky to be doing something we love for a living but are seldom aware that the work can mean something more to others. Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment and my condolences on the loss of your father.

  4. Excellent choice, Joe...I've always dug that Conan pose. Great work, as usual.
